Description
A painting to take a trip down the memory lane – Several historians consider Rajasthan to be one of the primary cultural centres for the development of the widely acclaimed ‘Miniature Paintings.’ Though these paintings flourished during the 17th-18th century under the Mughal rule, they have seen influences from various other cultures and religions spread across space and time. Given the extent of detailing and nuances required, the artisans place a significant amount of emphasis on the materials used for these paintings. Squirrel hair brushes and natural paints are utilized to create a harmonized conjuncture of ‘real’ and ‘imagined’ landscapes– from the depiction of the royal family to Hindu mythology and even daily life. Fine lines, well-defined figurines and emotionally charged expressions are some of the most distinctive features of these paintings. Apart from serving as critical documentations of culture, today, these paintings are also used for decorating spaces.
