Mirrors of royalty
Thikri or ‘glass mosaic,’ is the process of inlaying mirrors from hand-cut items and arranging them to form geometric mosaic patterns. Traditionally used in the palaces of ancient Indian royalty, the Thikri art of Rajasthan radiates the grandeur, splendor and beauty embedded in Indian culture and heritage. Though initially the artisans drew upon ornamental and floral themes, today, a global demand from customers world-wide, has paved way for innovation and design intervention. Many artisans have even begun practicing the art on mediums apart from walls, such as furniture and other wooden pieces. The breath-taking motif designs in the Thikri art can capture anyone’s eye!
